WELCOME TO THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

The Francis Lewis High School English Department offers students a variety of courses in the study of literature, composition, rhetoric, research, and creative writing. The department is interdisciplinary in its offerings, collaborating with the World Languages, Social Studies, and Guidance Departments.

In addition to our regular sequence of English Language Arts classes, we offer electives such as Social Justice, Journalism, College Literature, and Yearbook. Moreover, we offer four AP courses including AP Seminar, AP Research, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature and Composition.

The English Department proudly houses the AP Capstone program, the Gateway program, the Journalism Academy, the Social Justice program, the Restorative Practices program, MSK/MBK, and University Scholars.

Our teachers encourage disciplined, original thinking and writing while promoting creativity, collaboration, and diversity. We truly value the power of student voice and through our immersive curriculum, students engage in analysis and critical thinking which enhances their capacity to be responsible global citizens.
