Physical Education Department Specific Grading Policies

 

Students are required to pass 8 Terms of Physical Education AND 1 Full Credit of Health Education in order to graduate and receive a High School Diploma from Francis Lewis High School.

Grading Categories:

  • Preparedness: Students must be prepared in the Francis Lewis High School Physical Education Uniform AND sneakers as specified in the Preparedness Rubric (see attached rubric).

 

  • Effort/Participation: Students will be graded on their effort and participation levels in each class as stated in the Effort/Participation Rubric (see attached rubric). This will consist of the cooperation students bring to class along with how they perform designated tasks, their motivation, their demonstration of sportsmanlike conduct and behavior while following all school-wide and class rules and regulations.
    • Electronics: Students will not be permitted to have their cell phone or any other electronics in Students must lock their electronics in their own locker. Cell phones that are brought to class will result in a decrease in points awarded on the Effort/Participation Rubric.
    • Lateness: Students must be on time for class. They will have 6 minutes to change into their uniforms and arrive in their class. After the designated changing time, students will be marked late, resulting in a decrease in points awarded on the Effort/Participation Rubric.
    • Book Bags/Other Items: Students must lock their personal belongings in their locker. Personal items (including, but not limited to, jackets, scarves, hats, book bags, jewelry, ) will not be allowed in the gymnasium or other class areas. Any items that are brought to class besides the proper attire will result in a decrease in points awarded on the Effort/Participation Rubric.

 

  • Assessments: Assessments will be at the teacher’s discretion and may include but are not limited to: tests, quizzes, homework, projects, notebooks and skill assessments.

·        Actively participates in 90-100% of all class activity while setting a positive example for the rest of the class to follow.

·        Highly motivated in ALL areas of the class.

·        Volunteers to lead stretches when leaders are out.

·        Fully performs and participates in warm-up activities and skill/game play.

·        Follows all class rules and regulations.

·        Demonstrates proper school behavior and sportsmanlike conduct.

POINTS

·        Actively participates in 75-89% of all class activity while setting a positive example for the rest of the class to follow.

·        Motivated in SOME areas of the class (e.g. only gameplay, or only warm-up).

·        Performs warm-up activities and skill/game play.

·        Follows all class rules and regulations.

·        Demonstrates proper school behavior and sportsmanlike conduct.

(Failing)

·        Actively participates in 65-74% of all class activity but has to be constantly motivated by the teacher in order to participate.

·        Performs warm-up activities and skill/game play ONLY WHEN PROMPTED.

·        Follows some class rules and regulations (disruptive when teaching lesson, using cell phone, interferes with class productivity).

·        Student sometimes demonstrates proper school behavior and sportsmanlike conduct but needs constant reminding.

(Failing)

·        Student actively participates in less than 65% of all class activity.

·        Has to be consistently motivated by teacher in order to participate.

·        Does not perform warm-up activities or skill/game play, even when prompted.

·        Does not follow class rules and regulations (disruptive when teaching lesson, using cell phone, interferes with class productivity).

·        Student infrequently demonstrates proper school behavior and sportsmanlike conduct and needs constant reminding.

·        Student is ABSENT (unexcused) from class.

* LATENESS, possessing ANY electronics, and bringing unnecessary items to class will result in a decrease in points awarded on this rubric at the teacher’s discretion.
